Women living in countries with high rates of disease and ill health prefer “masculine”-looking men rather than “feminine”-looking guys, claim scientists from Scotland’s University of Aberdeen.

Psychologists tested the theory that masculine traits in men are a sign of genetic health. The theory holds that women are influenced by choosing a mate who will produce stronger children.

British scientists who claim that women who use contraceptives can actually expect to live longer.

The study, published freely online in the British Medical Journal, found that the pill reduced the women’s risk of death from bowel cancer by 38% and from other diseases by about 12%
