PrayerfulAngel Is prayer good for sex?

In 2009 the London-based Catholic Truth Society published a Prayer book for Spouses.

‘I suppose it is a bit idealistic but it is recognising that God is at the heart of the marriage relationship between husband and wife,’ said Rt Rev Paul Hendricks.

Certainly, being truly committed to a person – not just sticking it out – but also committing at a spiritual level enhances commitment.

By uniting a couple at a spiritual level can fully enhance pleasure.

Taoist philosophy encourages a 48 hour period of preparation, as sexual energies accumulate. The desired serene meditative ecstasy requires the man to calm his chi flow and not disturb his woman’s emotional antenna either before or after love making.

Kabbalah reminds us that what we often call love is really our ego demanding satisfaction. “Rather than deny our desires” we once wrote in this blog “we elevate them to a higher purpose.”

Love grows though mutual giving. Working together toward a spiritual goal increases satisfaction and is  the most precious gift that happy couples can give each other. Their relationship becomes deeper and has genuine meaning.

In Jewish law, for example, nearly every aspect of life can be regulated by mitzvah, meaning commandment or connection. For example, modesty is seen to add to the exclusivity between the couple.

After the menstrual or Niddah period, the woman is prepared as a bride for her husband refreshed and renewed. During the cycle, the woman although cared for by his spouse does not sleep in the same bed or touch his wife.

It is her time for emotional, physical and spiritual rebirth. A journey felt by man and wife as they pass a period of separation and long for union expressed by poet Rachaele Yisrael in I am Learning the Distance of Mikvah.

Yet it is up to the couple as to how connected to God their marriage will be.

The home is a temple of love and candles, pillows, sweet incense, and romantic music help open a spiritual inviting of love.

The sad thing is that because some groups express views that are unpopular, the church’s position on contraception and abortion are examples, people fail to see the profound bond that sacred sexuality can have to enhance a loving union.

Although, meaninglessly rattling off a prayer (just in case there is a God listening) before love may have little meaning, a prayer, an intention or a spiritual practice that brings a couple close to each other and their mutually loved creator can surely build love, joy and passion.

Enlightenment Through Sacred Sex

Tantra is Sanskrit for “weaving.” And when fully awakened, we realise that sexual and spiritual energy are manifestations of the same life force energy, called prana in India and chi in China. This force rules the spiritual, universal and psychological worlds are woven together while we experience the illusion of separation.
